About Us

Our family is made up of my husband J, myself (Danica), two awesome sons B and G, a dog named Chuck, a cat named Gryphon and a guinea pig named Hider. J and I have been married for 13 years now (2010). I’m not big on grade levels, but B (9 yrs old) would be in the 3rd grade and G (6 yrs old) would be in 1st grade for the 2010-2011 school year. We always use any teaching moments that come up so they tend to get “ahead” of where they would be. One of the best things about homeschooling is not being stuck where your peers are!!

We are pretty eclectic homeschoolers. If something works, it works! Just because it doesn’t fit into a label doesn’t mean it should be tossed aside. We do like The Well-Trained Mind (Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer) and a lot of what they recommend because it does work for us. When B was little there were a lot of Montessori materials around and he loved them. G was really not interested so they have gone by the wayside, so to speak. G is mostly into Legos. Any way that I can make a Lego activity fit into our day…I do. lol!

We’re vegan, so we do not eat any animal products. No dairy (milk, cheese, butter, etc), no meat, no eggs. It is awesome how much better we all feel after having ditched these things from our diet! This is an extremely important topic to us, so I am sure it’s going to come up from time to time. I do have a (poor, neglected) site that is just about veganism, so I will try to keep most of it there with maybe just some links here and there to posts I feel are relevant or extremely important.  ;)
